FREE GEEK Michiana both reuses and recycles. We reuse all the components that we can in our FreeBoxes. What we cannot reuse, we recycle.
FREE GEEK Michiana is one of two dedicated computer electronics reuse programs in Indiana. The other is Virtual Scavengers in Indianapolis.
Reuse is the most effective way to keep toxic electronics out of our landfills, our air and water and to retain these useful assets in our community where they can continue to meet citizens' needs.
Local Recyclers
Electronics eventually wear out or become obsolete. At that point, FREE GEEK Michiana recycles components at local vendors. We don't ship recyclables outside the community so FREE GEEK Michiana helps build our local economy.
Solid Waste District
FREE GEEK Michiana enjoys a close relationship with the Solid Waste Management District in St. Joseph County.
FREE GEEK Michiana sends our recyclables to local vendors. Whatever material is left goes to the Solid Waste Management District recycling center in Mishawaka.
FREE GEEK Michiana Warehouse
FREE GEEK Michiana has a warehouse in South Bend which includes a workshop, cold storage, truck dock and pallet jacks. Use of the space
is donated by a local business and FREE GEEK Michiana pays the utility bills.
