Volunteers earn a FreeBox computer by volunteering 16 hours at FREE GEEK MICHIANA.

FreeBox 3

The second version of our FreeBox has more resources than FreeBox 2.

Our volunteers are in the process of selecting an appropriate Gnu/Linux distribution.

  • Pentium II or III class cpu, 300+ MHz
  • 128+ MB RAM
  • 4 to 10 GB hard drive
  • CDROM drive
  • 1.44 MB floppy drive
  • Keyboard and mouse
  • 14" or 15" color monitor


FreeBox 2

The second version of our FreeBox has more resources than FreeBox 1.

Our volunteers have selected an excellent operating system and collection of programs.

  • Vector Linux 4.3
  • Pentium class cpu, 266-450 MHz
  • 64-128 MB RAM
  • 4.0+ GB hard drive
  • CDROM drive
  • 1.44 MB floppy drive
  • Keyboard and mouse
  • 14" or 15" color monitor


FreeBox 1

The first version of our FreeBox is a low resource computer.

Our volunteers have selected an excellent operating system and collection of programs.

  • Vector Linux 3.2
  • Pentium class cpu, 133-266 MHz
  • 32-64 MB RAM
  • 1.2+ GB hard drive
  • CDROM drive (when available)
  • 1.44 MB floppy drive
  • Keyboard and mouse
  • 14" or 15" color monitor

As more donations arrive we hope to offer a modem and sound card with each computer.

Remember there is a $15 recycling fee for all monitors, no exceptions.

FREE GEEK Michiana accepts whatever computer equipment you bring us. However, if your computer equipment is older than a Pentium or Mac PowerPC, or, if it is broken, we appreciate a cash donation to cover processing.
