FREE GEEK MICHIANA turns old computers into FreeBoxes to distribute to low income families.
Volunteers earn a FreeBox computer by volunteering 16 hours at FREE GEEK Michiana. Parents of students in Title 1 primary centers are eligible to take a FreeBox class. Just look at Margarita's smile!
FreeBox Software
Our volunteers install Ubuntu LTS. Ubuntu Linux provides the following features:
- web browsing
- email
- word processing
- spreadsheets
- digital photo viewing and editing
- HTML editing
- games
- networking
- audio and video playback
- CD or DVD recording if there is a CD or DVD burner installed

The current version of our FreeBox has more resources than previous FreeBoxes.
